How to Be More Friendly With Google Search Engine?

As you may know that Google has released “Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide” Version 1.1, published 13 November 2008. Bellowing are just some main points those we should do to make our web site to be more friendly with Google search engine crawler.

1.      Create a unique title tag for each page of your web site – This will help Google see the different content from a page to the other pages of your web site.

2.      Use short but rich informative titles – Please keep in mind that Google or any search engines only use a limited words for each page title.  

3.      Use good summarize of the page content for description tag – Description metal tag need to be rich information and can be used as a snippet in a search result. Good description metal tag can drive more traffic through search engine users’ click  

4.      Create an unique description tag for each page of your web site – This will help Google and web users to see the different content from a page to the other pages of your web site.

5.      Use words in your web site URLs – A good URL is: easy to remember, rich informative about the page content and not too long. ( Our advice: It is great if you register a domain name that has rich informative about your web site content)

6.      Create a simple structure for your web site urls – Web site structure is similar to a super market structure. The more simple structure, the better for visitors to find out the products they are looking for. This also good for search engine to find out and index your web site URLS. Make it clear and easy for users to go from home page content to the more specific content they want on your site.

7.      Use a unique URL for each page content – To concentrate on the linking reputation to a web URL.

8.      Use rich informative text for navigation for both internal and external links – Makes it easier for web users and  search engines like Google to crawl and understand your site content.

9.      Use internal links at the top or bottom of your web page – This will help your site visitors to navigate back to a previous section or the root page quickly and also help your web pages more friendly with search engine crawler.

10.  Use an HTML and XML sitemap for your site  – An HTML sitemap page with links to all of the important pages on your web site can be useful for visitors to find out your site products and more friendly for Google search engine crawler. An XML Sitemap file for your site to ensure that Google crawler will discover most of the pages on your site.

11.  Make use of 404 page – will help users back to a working page on your site can greatly improve a user’s experience and help your site more friendly with search engine crawler.

12.  Use relevant language – Think about the words that a user might search for to find a piece of your content. Users who know a lot about the topic might use different keywords in their search queries than someone who is new to the topic.

13.  Create fresh and unique content for each web page – a fresh and unique content will not only useful for your site visitors, but also help your site more friendly with search engine.

14.  Use heading tags – But remember that only use heading tags if it make senses for your web site content.

15.  Use short and rich informative filenames and alt text – Filenames and alt text are best when they’re short, but descriptive. This will good for both web users and search engines.

What Are Essential Pages to include on Your Website?

Wondering what pages to include on your website and why? Here is a list of important information that should be included on your site.

Before you start thinking about what to write, it is important that you create a plan, which outlines what each page will contain. That way you won’t repeat yourself or forget vital information. The most common pages on successful websites include:

1. Home Page (First Page)

This is your “sales” page and should provide information about what you can do for your customers. It should also give your visitors a brief overview of what they can find on your site.

2. Products / Services

It is useful to have a separate page for each product/service and write as much detail about each as possible. Start each page with a brief summary of the product/service, then provide whatever information you can. When people are searching for information on the internet, they want to know it NOW. They don’t want to wait until tomorrow when they can speak to you on the phone.

3. Contact Us

Place contact details in as many places as possible. Make it easy for your customers to contact you. Create a special “Contact Us” page, include your details in “About Us” page and also at the bottom of each page. Information to include: business name, physical address, mailing address, telephone, fax, email, emergency number, website address.

4. Pricing

Whenever possible include the price of your products/services. Even if you can’t be specific. It is helpful to put at least a range of prices, eg. Carpet cleaning ranges between $40 – $60 per room.

5. Testimonials / Product Reviews / Before & After

Include testimonials from your current customer to show your potential clients that you are trustworthy, reliable and that you offer great service and/or products. Make sure the testimonials are real and if possible provide contact details of the person who supplied you with the testimonial. If you don’t have any right now, get them! Simply email your customers and ask for their feedback on your business and service.

You could also include before and after photos. Show the problem picture and beside it show the picture of resolution, with an explanation of your product’s benefits.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

This has proven to be a great time saver for many companies. Instead of having to answer the same questions over and over again, place them on your website and keep adding to them. The more information you have on your website, the less time you will need to spend answering questions by email or phone.

Frequently Asked Questions should address your customer’s concerns that may otherwise be an obstacle to making a sale.

7. Response form such as “Subscribe” or “Enquiry” form

An absolute must if you want to build a mailing list. Most people don’t like giving out too much information, so ask only the basics, such as Name and Email Address. Then keep in touch with your customers on a regular basis by sending out information that may be of interest to them. You may even wish to develop your own on-line magazine (ezine). There are many fantastic free or inexpensive programs that can handle this for you.

8. On-line Magazine or Newsletter

This is a great marketing tool. Not only does it help you keep in touch with your customers, but provides your website with fresh content. You can set up your Ezine in 2 different ways:

(a) Email subscribers on a regular basis or (b) Publish it on your website.

Or both. Include information about your business, industry or anything that may be of interest to your customers.

9. Resources/Articles

Add value to your business. Provide information that is complementary to what you do. For example, if you sell wedding dresses include information about reception venues, wedding planners, wedding cakes, flowers. By adding extra information you encourage more hits.

10. About Us

This is a very important page as it tells your customer about who you are and why they should buy your products, services and/or trust your organization. It can also feature your business hours (if you have a bricks and mortar store) or when they can speak to someone on the phone. Many companies also include their mission, details of their staff (photos, biographies, qualifications), recently completed projects, ACN or ABN, logo, directions to your store/office. It is also useful to include details of trade associations you belong to, trade and insurance certificates and any awards you may have won.

11. Guarantee

Offer a money back guarantee. The longer the guarantee, the more effective it will be. It could be 30 days, 60 days, 1 year or lifetime.

12. Survey

Find out what customers think about your website, business or product.

13. Events Calendar

This can relate to your business or industry. If you are an artist, you can feature dates where and when your art will be displayed or if you are a singer, where you will be performing.

14. Search My Website Feature

Some visitors to your side may not know exactly what they want but if you include a search function on your site, they can look for it very easily. Like search engines, this feature will allow your visitors to type in a word or phrase and then search for it on your site. It’s like having your own mini search engines, only instead of it searching the world wide web, it just searches your website.

15. Return/Refund Policy

To make your customers feel more comfortable when making a transaction at your website, you should provide then with your return/refund policy. Ensure it is easy to understand and spelt out step by step.

Privacy continues to be a major issue for customers shopping online. Concerns about how their information is going to be used is a major barrier when making a sale. Internet shopping experience is built on trust and privacy is the number one ingredient in trust.

Domain name is the most important thing while going in the digital world. It is the first step to go in the digital world. This is the initial process to establish a website. Domain name registration is a necessary, easy, and strategically important first step in establishing an online presence, whether for business or otherwise. 

A well-chosen domain name registration can set you up for success with your new site in so many ways, the most prominent of these being increased search engine traffic. A good domain name registration, particularly for an online business, is easily done, but at the same time requires choices that will impact your site’s effectiveness. So here, in no particular order, are some things to bear in mind when doing a domain name registration. 

The extension – Will it be a .com, .net, .org, .info etc. Any of these will get spidered and indexed by the search engines, but if you can get a .com for your chosen name you’d be better off, as this extension is more common and carries an air of legitimacy with it. Try not to have you domain name registration with your web host. Your domain name registration, purchased from a reputable company should run you somewhere between $1-10, depending on the extension and the amount of time you sign up for. 

Probably the most important aspect of your domain name registration is the choice of keywords to use in your domain name. Try to use the main keyword or phrase you’d like to optimize the whole site for, and see if you can craft a domain name around it. The search engines seem to favor keyword-rich domain names. Keep it short if possible. 

A shorter name is easier to remember than a long one. Don’t use your company name unless it has your keywords in it. There’s no point in ranking high for your name if no one is looking for it yet. Try to keep your domain name registration topically relevant. As search engines get smarter and smarter, sites that display total relevance will rank higher than catch all sites. 

Lastly, be sure to avoid other companies’ trademarks and copyrights in your domain name. For example, let’s say you’re an affiliate of The Sharper Image. To sum up, your domain name registration is easy to do, but important to do well. It can make the difference in whether you get found or not.

Court Awards Verizon Largest-Ever Judgment In a Cybersquatting Case

Northern California Company Ordered to Pay More Than $33 Million



BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – In the largest cybersquatting judgment ever, a federal court in the Northern District of California has awarded Verizon $33.15 million in a case in which an Internet domain registration company tried to take advantage of Verizon and Verizon customers by using Internet names chosen to be easily confused with legitimate Verizon names. 

The default ruling came in a case filed by Verizon against OnlineNIC, a company based in San Francisco that had unlawfully registered at least 663 domain names that were either identical to or confusingly similar to Verizon trademarks.  The court concluded that OnlineNIC’s bad-faith registrations of Verizon-related domain names were designed to attract web users who were seeking to access Verizon’s legitimate websites and calculated an award based on $50,000 per domain name.  Neither OnlineNIC nor counsel representing the company appeared in court in OnlineNIC’s defense.

“This case should send a clear message and serve to deter cybersquatters who continue to run businesses for the primary purpose of misleading consumers,” said Sarah Deutsch, Verizon vice president and associate general counsel.  “Verizon intends to continue to take all steps necessary to protect our brand and consumers from Internet frauds and abuses.”

Verizon has won a string of similar cases.  In three earlier cybersquatting cases, courts granted contested preliminary injunctions against three different violators.  Verizon has increased its vigilance in trademark cases as part of its broader effort to protect its brand and put its intellectual property innovations to work. 

Verizon’s intellectual property legal group was named one of the five best in the world by the International Law Office, with the support of the Association of Corporate Counsel.  The organizations named Verizon a winner in their Global Counsel Awards for 2008, based on an “in-depth analysis of in-house lawyers and legal departments worldwide.”

Germany’s .de Was Displaced As The Most Popular Country Code Extension

Verisign released its third quarter Domain Industry
The report said there were 174 million domain names registered worldwide (the total across all extensions) at the end of the third quarter (Sept. 30). That is an increase of 3% over the previous quarter and 19% over the total registered at the end of the same quarter last year.

Country code domains continued to grow faster than the rate the overall registration market is expanding. At the end of 3Q 2008 just under

69 million ccTLD registration were in force, a jump of 5% over the previous quarter and 26% over the same quarter last year. For the first time, Germany’s .de was displaced as the most popular country code extension, being passed by China’s .cn. Meanwhile Australia’s .au joined the top ten ccTLD list for the first time, displacing Swizterland’s .ch.

Though the total number of registrations continues to expand, growth rates in both global and ccTLDs are slowing down from previous quarters. Verisign said that the declining payments for traffic that domain owners are seeing from Google is part of the reason for the slowing rate of new registrations and a rising rate of non-renewals.
