CLOAKING

Cloaking is the practice of showing one version of a webpage to a search crawler like Bingbot, and another to normal visitors. Showing users different content than to the crawlers can be seen as a spam tactic and be detrimental to your website’s rankings and can lead to your site being de-listed from our index. It is therefore recommended to be extremely cautious about responding differently to crawlers as opposed to “regular” visitors and to not cloak as a principle.

Auto follows encourage follower growth on social sites such as Twitter.  They work by automatically following anyone who follows you.  Over time this creates a scenario where the number of followers you have is more or less the same as the number of people following you.  This does not indicate you have a strong influence.  Following relatively few people while having a high follower count would tend to indicate a stronger influential voice.

META REFRESH REDIRECTS

These redirects reside in the code of a website and are programmed for a preset time interval.  They automatically redirect a visitor when the time expires, redirecting them to other content. Rather than using meta refresh redirects, we suggest you use a normal 301 redirect.

DUPLICATE CONTENT

Duplicating content across multiple URLs can lead to Bing losing trust in some of those URLs over time.  This issue should be managed by fixing the root cause of the problem.  The rel=canonical element can also be used but should be seen as a secondary solution to that of fixing the core problem. If excessive parameterization is causing duplicate content issue, we encourage you to use the Ignore URL Parameters tool.

KEYWORD STUFFING

When creating content, make sure to create your content for real users and readers, not to entice search engines to rank your content better. Stuffing your content with specific keywords with the sole intent of artificially inflating the probability of ranking for specific search terms is in violation of our guidelines and can lead to demotion or even the delisting of your website from our search results.

The strategies hackers use to break into your site can be complicated but the results are usually pretty simple – lost revenue. Here are the 10 most common threats identified by the Open Web Application Security Project:

1. Injection.

It’s not uncommon for web applications to have injection flaws, especially SQL injection flaws. A hacker who finds one will send malicious data as part of a command or query. The attacker’s message tricks the app into changing data or executing a command it was not designed to obey.

2. Cross-site Scripting.

Cross-site Scripting flaws occur whenever an application sends user-supplied data to a web browser without validating it first. Hackers use these flaws to hijack users away from the site or deface it, thereby costing the site owner in lost business.

3. Insecure Direct Object References.

Applications that lack checks to verify a user is authorized to view particular content can be manipulated to access private data.

4. Broken Authentication.

When account credentials and session tokens aren’t properly protected, hackers can assume users’ identities online.

5. Cross-site Request Forgery (CSRF).

A CSRF attack tricks unknowing site visitors into submitting forged HTTP requests via image tags, XSS, or other techniques. If the user is logged in, the attack succeeds.

6. Security Misconfiguration.

Security misconfiguration flaws give hackers unauthorized access to system data via default accounts, unused pages, unpatched flaws, unprotected files and directories.

7. Insecure Cryptographic Storage.

Many web applications don’t do enough to protect sensitive data such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers and login credentials . Thieves may use this data for identity theft, credit card fraud or other crimes.

8. Failure to Restrict URL Access.

Often an app will protect sensitive interactions by not showing links or URLs to unauthorized users. Attackers use this weakness to access those URLs directly in order to carry out unauthorized actions.

9. Insufficient Transport Layer Protection.

Applications often fail to authenticate, encrypt and protect the confidentiality of network traffic. Some use weak algorithms, expired or invalid certificates or use them incorrectly. This allows hackers to “eavesdrop” on online exchanges. An SSL Certificate typically neutralizes this threat.

10. Invalidated Redirects & Forwards.

Web applications often redirect or forward legitimate users to other pages and websites, using insecure data to determine the destination. Attackers use this weakness to redirect victims to phishing or malware sites, or use forwards to open private pages.

1 – Country code top-level domain (ccTLD). For example, aw.ca specifically targets users in Canada.

2 – Host server location, particularly for .com, .net, and .org.

3 – Language of the body text on the page.

4 – Locale of pages that link to your site.

and for sure, number of links to your urls are the most important points.

How to Be More Friendly With Google Search Engine?

As you may know that Google has released “Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide” Version 1.1, published 13 November 2008. Bellowing are just some main points those we should do to make our web site to be more friendly with Google search engine crawler.

1.      Create a unique title tag for each page of your web site – This will help Google see the different content from a page to the other pages of your web site.

2.      Use short but rich informative titles – Please keep in mind that Google or any search engines only use a limited words for each page title.  

3.      Use good summarize of the page content for description tag – Description metal tag need to be rich information and can be used as a snippet in a search result. Good description metal tag can drive more traffic through search engine users’ click  

4.      Create an unique description tag for each page of your web site – This will help Google and web users to see the different content from a page to the other pages of your web site.

5.      Use words in your web site URLs – A good URL is: easy to remember, rich informative about the page content and not too long. ( Our advice: It is great if you register a domain name that has rich informative about your web site content)

6.      Create a simple structure for your web site urls – Web site structure is similar to a super market structure. The more simple structure, the better for visitors to find out the products they are looking for. This also good for search engine to find out and index your web site URLS. 7.      Use a unique URL for each page content – To concentrate on the linking reputation to a web URL.

An XML Sitemap file for your site to ensure that Google crawler will discover most of the pages on your site.

11.  Make use of 404 page – will help users back to a working page on your site can greatly improve a user’s experience and help your site more friendly with search engine crawler.

12.  Use relevant language – Think about the words that a user might search for to find a piece of your content. Users who know a lot about the topic might use different keywords in their search queries than someone who is new to the topic.

13.  Create fresh and unique content for each web page – a fresh and unique content will not only useful for your site visitors, but also help your site more friendly with search engine.

14.  Use heading tags – But remember that only use heading tags if it make senses for your web site content.

15.  Use short and rich informative filenames and alt text – Filenames and alt text are best when they’re short, but descriptive. This will good for both web users and search engines.

Wondering what pages to include on your website and why? Here is a list of important information that should be included on your site.

Before you start thinking about what to write, it is important that you create a plan, which outlines what each page will contain. That way you won’t repeat yourself or forget vital information. The most common pages on successful websites include:

1. Home Page (First Page)

This is your “sales” page and should provide information about what you can do for your customers. It should also give your visitors a brief overview of what they can find on your site.

2. Products / Services

It is useful to have a separate page for each product/service and write as much detail about each as possible. Start each page with a brief summary of the product/service, then provide whatever information you can. When people are searching for information on the internet, they want to know it NOW. They don’t want to wait until tomorrow when they can speak to you on the phone.

3. Contact Us

Place contact details in as many places as possible. Make it easy for your customers to contact you. 7. Response form such as “Subscribe” or “Enquiry” form
