Can I change domain expiration date?

If your .com and .net domain names have different renewal dates, you can use ConsoliDate to synchronize them so they renew on the same date.

Follow the steps below to synchronize your .com and .net domain name renewals by month and day. To synchronize to a chosen year, month, and day, see Renewing YourDomain Names for details.

NOTE: Domain names can only be consolidated once per 12-month period and cannot be consolidated beyond the 10-year registration limit.

To Consolidate Your .com and .net Expiration Dates

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  3. Select the domain(s) you want to consolidate.
  4. From the Renew menu, select ConsoliDate Expiration Dates.
  5. In Domains to ConsoliDate, select Select all, if available, or select the specificdomain names you want to consolidate.
  6. In Renew on, select the month and day you want the domain names to renew.
  7. To agree to the terms and conditions of the ConsoliDate Agreement and continue with the consolidation, select I agree to….
  8. Click OK.

Transferring Your Domain Names To LuckyRegister

Transferring your domain names to LuckyRegsiter – You can use these instructions to transfer a domain name from your current registrar to LuckyRegsiter.

Getting Ready to Transfer Your Domain Name to Us

Before you authorize your domain name transfer, do the following:

  1. Ensure that the administrative contact for your domain name has a valid email address in the Whois database. Both registrars use this email address to send you important information about the transfer. If it is invalid, contact your current registrar to update it.NOTE: If your domain name has private registration, a service that hides your personal information from the public, you cannot verify your administrative contact’s email address in the Whois database. You must contact your current registrar to cancel the private registration, and then you can update the email address, if necessary.
  2. Unlock your domain name at your current registrar.
  3. Get an authorization code from your current registrar, if required. Some domain name extensions, primarily country-code top-level domain names (ccTLDs), do not require an authorization code. Some registrars display the authorization code in your account with them, while others email it to the administrative contact’s email address upon request.
  4. Purchase a domain name transfer from our website. If the extension you want to transfer is not listed, you cannot transfer the domain name to us.We send an email message to the domain name’s administrative contact right after you purchase the transfer. The email contains the transaction ID and security code you need to authorize the transfer in your account with us.TIP: Prior to purchasing the transfer, you can add Off-site DNS for the domain name in your DNS Manager and select an option to keep its zone file (DNS records) intact. For more information, see Managing Domain Names with Off-site DNS.

Authorizing a Domain Name Transfer to Your Account

When you complete these steps, you agree to the domain name’s transfer, and you authorize us to complete the transfer process.

To Authorize a Domain Name Transfer to Your Account

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. In the My Products sidebar, click Domain Manager.NOTE: If the Domain Manager option does not display for you, in the My Account section of the sidebar, select Domain Transfers.
  3. From the Domains menu, select Pending Transfers.
  4. Click Authorization (the black button on the right), and then select Begin Transfer Authorization.
  5. In the Transaction ID and Security Code fields, enter the codes from the email we sent to the domain name’s administrative contact, and then click Next. A list of domain names included in the transfer displays.
  6. Click Next to confirm the transfer of the listed domain names.
  7. If applicable, enter the Authorization Code from the current registrar, and then click Finish.NOTE: For most domain name extensions, a transfer between registrars takes five to seven days from the time you authorize it. The process and time required for transfer completion can vary for certain extensions, such as country-code top-level domain names (ccTLDs). For more information, see About ccTLDs (Country-Code Domain Names), and then click the Help article for your extension.

Checking the Progress of Your Transfer

After you authorize the transfer, we send a request to your domain name’s registry, and then they notify your current registrar. Your current registrar might send a request for transfer approval to the domain name’s administrative contact email address. Then, your current registrar sends an acceptance or rejection notice back to the registry, and then the registry notifies us of the transfer status.

On the Pending Transfers page in the Domain Manager, you can track your transfer’s progress and view recommended action(s) to complete the transfer.

To Check the Progress of Your Transfer

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.NOTE: If the Domain Manager option does not display for you, in the My Account section of the sidebar, select Domain Transfers.
  3. From the Domains menu, select Pending Transfers. The following information displays for each pending transfer:
    • Progress — The domain name’s current step in the domain transfer process. Mouse over the step to view a tooltip.
    • Recommended Action — The recommended action to continue transferring the domain name. (Not all domain name extensions require you to approve the transfer with your current registrar. If your current registrar requires approval, they send a request to your administrative contact’s email address.)
    • Admin Email — The administrative email address currently associated with the domain name. This is the email address to which we and your current registrar send important transfer information.

    Click the domain name to display additional information:

    • Status — The domain name’s current status in the transfer process.
    • Step — A comprehensive description of the domain name’s current step in the transfer process.

Helpful Tips

Use these tips to ensure your domain name completes a smooth transfer:

  • We do not transfer existing records and content from the previous registrar. If you did not choose to retain the domain name’s nameservers on file with the previous registrar, we park the domain name on our parking nameservers and create a new zone file for it when it’s activated in your account here. You can use the Zone File Editor in the DNS Manager to customize your zone file. For more information, see About Transferring Your Domain Name.TIP: Prior to purchasing the transfer, you can add Off-site DNS for the domain name in your DNS Manager and select an option to keep its zone file (DNS records) intact. For more information, see Managing Domain Names with Off-site DNS.
  • After we notify you that the transfer is complete, log in to your account with us and verify the domain name’s contact information. Inaccurate or incomplete information might result in the domain name’s cancellation. See Updating Your Domain Name Contact Information for more information.
  • All transfer authorization communication uses the email address for the administrative contact of the domain name. Be sure that it’s correct with your current registrar.
  • If your transfer doesn’t complete in 30 days, it expires. We can often restart it for you — contact support for assistance.
  • ICANN regulations prohibit transferring domain names registered or previously transferred in the last 60 days. For more information, click here.
  • You must unlock the domain name at its current registrar for the transfer to complete successfully.

      • Use an existing account — If you already have an account with Domains By Proxy, enter your user name and password for the account.
    • Custom — click Add, and then select the desired domain names.

    Hint: Placing your mouse over each option displays the domain names included in the Bundle option.

  6. Click Checkout, and then continue through the checkout process.

What does the status of a domain name mean?

What does the status of a domain name mean? There are several domain name status codes that you might see when using Domain Alert® Pro. Most of these are variations of a few basic statuses:

  • ACTIVE — The normal state for a domain name. Active domain names can be used for websites, email, or to register nameservers.
  • REGISTRAR-HOLD — The domain name was placed on hold by the registrar and cannot be used or renewed.
  • REGISTRY-HOLD — The domain name was placed on hold by the registry and cannot be used.
  • REGISTRAR-LOCK — The registrar, often at the request of the domain name registrant, locked the domain name so that its settings cannot be modified.
  • REGISTRY-LOCK — The registry locked the domain name so that its settings cannot be modified.
  • REDEMPTIONPERIOD — The domain name expired, and the registry is waiting for 30 days as a precautionary measure before releasing it.
  • PENDINGRESTORE — A domain name that had expired is being restored to ACTIVE status.
  • PENDINGDELETE — The domain expired and is no longer available for redemption. The registry is about to erase it. A domain name remains in this status for five days before it is deleted.
  • CLIENT_DELETE_PROHIBITED — The registrar locked the domain name so that it cannot be deleted.
  • SERVER_DELETE_PROHIBITED — The registry locked the domain name so that it cannot be deleted.
  • CLIENT_HOLD — The registrar placed the domain name on hold, and it cannot be used.
  • SERVER_HOLD — The registry placed the domain name on hold, and it cannot be used.
  • CLIENT_RENEW_PROHIBITED — The registrar locked the domain name so that it cannot be renewed.
  • SERVER_RENEW_PROHIBITED — The registry has locked the domain name so that it cannot be renewed.
  • CLIENT_TRANSFER_PROHIBITED — The registrar locked the domain name so that it cannot be transferred to another registrar.
  • SERVER_TRANSFER_PROHIBITED — The registry locked the domain name so that it cannot be transferred to another registrar.
  • CLIENT_UPDATE_PROHIBITED — The registrar locked the domain name to prevent its settings from being changed.
  • SERVER_UPDATE_PROHIBITED — The registry locked the domain name to prevent its settings from being changed.
  • INACTIVE — The domain name cannot be used because the nameservers haven’t been entered or there is a problem with the nameservers.
  • OK — The domain name is active and can be used for websites, email, or to register nameservers.
  • PENDING_DELETE — The registration for the domain name is about to be deleted by the registry, as when the domain name expires.
  • PENDING_TRANSFER — The domain name is in the process of being transferred from one registrar to another. It may not be modified during this period.
  • PENDING_VERIFICATION — The registry is creating the domain name record.

 

Register an expired domain name?

When can I register an expired domain name? Usually, a domain name is not available for re-registration as soon as it expires. Most registrars allow a grace period that can be as short as one or two weeks or as long as a year for registrants to renew expired domain names. The actual grace period can be different for each individual registrar and domain name extension. That is, the grace period for a .com domain name might be different from the grace period for a .fr domain name, even at the same registrar.

After the registrar’s grace period, most domain names have a redemption period. This period can last from two weeks to 30 days, and, during this time, the current registrant can renew the domain name by paying a redemption fee along with the domain name’s renewal fee. If the current registrant does not renew or redeem the domain name, it might be auctioned. When a domain name is released to a public auction, you can participate and possibly capture the domain name by placing a bid on it. If the domain name is not renewed, redeemed, or purchased through an auction, it is returned to its registry. The registry determines when the domain name is released again for registration. Once it’s released, you can register the domain name through us.

How To Recover Expired Domain Names

Your great domains were expired! It happens hundreds of times every day – and it could happen to you!
Your credit card expires. You change your email address and don’t update your domain contact information or you forgot to renew your domains….and your domains are expired!  When the domain name goes, everything else goes, too!
Fortunately, you still have a chance to get back your domains during the renewal grace period and the registry redemption period. Bellowing is the process for “How To  Recover Expired Domain Names
In the Domain Manager, you can attempt to recover expired top-level domain names (TLDs) during the renewal grace period and the registry redemption period. In addition to the cost of renewal, you might be required to pay a fee for the domain name recovery. For more information, see What is your process for handling expired domain names?

To Recover Expired Domain Names

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.
  3. From the Domains menu, select Recover Expired Domains.
  4. Select the domain names you want to recover.
  5. Click Recover.
  6. Select the renewal length for the domain name, and then click Next.NOTE: Renewal lengths for multiple domain names can vary depending on maximum renewal lengths allowed by the domain name registry.
  7. (Optional) Select the registration and website options you want to apply to your domain name renewals.
  8. Click Next, and complete the checkout process.

Process for handling expired domain names

The process we, the registrar, follow for expired domain names depends on your domain name extensions and their renewal settings. Prior to expiration, we send multiple emails to remind you to renew your domain names.

If you set your domain names to automatically renew, we attempt to renew the registrations for you the day after expiration. If we are unable to bill you, we park your expired domain names and notify you via email again.

If you set your domain names to manually renew and you let your domain names expire, we park your expired domain names and notify you via email again the day after expiration.

For expired .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .ws, .name, .cc, .mobi, .me, or .tv domain name registrations, we hold your domain name for approximately 42 days before canceling it. Automatic Renewal

If you set the domain name to automatic renewal, when your domain name registration expires, we take the following steps before canceling it:

  • On the day after your domain name registration’s expiration date, we attempt to bill you for the domain name renewal. If we cannot renew the domain name (for example, your card on file expired), we notify you of the domain name registration’s expiration and park your domain name. You can manually renew your domain name.
  • On the 5th and 12th days after expiration, we email you additional notifications. You can manually renew your domain name.
  • On the 19th day after expiration, your domain name remains on hold but becomes subject to a redemption fee. You can call customer support to renew your domain name, subject to any applicable renewal and redemption fees.
  • On the 25th day after expiration, we put your domain name up for auction with a domain name industry auction service. You can manually renew your domain name, subject to any applicable renewal and redemption fees.
  • On the 42nd day after expiration, we cancel your domain name. We delete all services associated with the domain name.

The registry might hold the domain name before releasing it for general registration.
