Premium DNS – DNS Services

A – What is DNS and why do I need to manage it?

  • Every domain name is given a series of numbers known as an IP address — for example, the IP address for www.coolexample.com is 68.178.232.100. It’s this number that your browser uses to locate a particular website.
  • When you type a domain name into your browser, the DNS (Domain Name Server) looks through a huge database to find the IP address you requested and then directs your browser to the correct website content.

B – Why Premium DNS?

Proper DNS management and security is critical in keeping your website, email and online applications up and running. Premium DNS makes it easy to manage and secure your DNS so your website is always available, performing reliably and safe from hackers who try to reroute your site and steal sensitive customer information.

  1. Faster performance, 99.999%† uptime guarantee Join our Premium DNS infrastructure and be confident your visitors can find you fast – no matter where they’re located throughout the world – with the Anycast DNS Network. Our world-class network is distributed across North America, Europe and Asia for increased performance and reliability.
  2. Reduce “website not found” errors You know that “website not found” errors make it look like your site doesn’t exist, but did you know that the inability to access a website is related to DNS issues 30% of the time?
  3. Mission-critical Secondary DNS Power outages and Internet routing problems can take down your primary DNS, making your website unavailable and leaving your visitors high and dry! Premium DNS provides a secondary DNS to deliver your domain name and keep your website accessible.
  4. Close security gaps All DNS systems worldwide have the same vulnerability – hackers can redirect your visitors to a malicious website or intercept their personal information. Premium DNS uses advanced DNSSEC security to protect your site and your visitors from these kinds of attacks.
  5. Easy to use for beginners, powerful for experts You don’t have to be a computer whiz to use Premium DNS. Our online dashboard makes it easy to manage and make updates to your DNS. If you’re an advanced user, you can drill down with more technical features. You can also get 24/7 access to expert support from certified DNS professionals.
  6. Works with any budget Only LuckyRegister – Cheap Domain Registration, Domain Hosting Services – offers the most comprehensive solution on the market at such an affordable price.

D – How It Works

What good is your website if visitors can’t reach it? Premium DNS makes it easy to resolve common issues that prevent people from accessing your site, improving your overall performance, availability and security.

Better security
  • Problem: Hackers attempt to hijack your site and steal customer data.
Hijacking is a risk with all DNS systems around the world. It’s a common way for hackers to steal private information. When a customer types in your Web address, the hacker interrupts the DNS lookup process and sends the user to a fake and malicious site that may look like your website.
Solution: Premium DNS (enabled with DNSSEC) creates an unbreakable “chain of trust” between the visitor’s browser and your server, verifying that the visitor is actually arriving at your website.
  • Problem: Keep all Web exchanges private.
Another way hackers steal credit card numbers and other sensitive information is through “eavesdropping.” Hackers sit on the DNS server and “listen in” on messages, logins and passwords as customers access your site.
Solution: By verifying the visitor is at the intended website, Premium DNS shuts eavesdropping down.
Greater reliability
  • Problem: “Website not found” errors cause you to lose visitors and sales.
It’s never good when users get a “website not found” error. At best, they think you’re unprofessional; at worst, they think you don’t exist.
Solution: Premium DNS makes sure your site is always available by using the Anycast global network, which provides multiple layers of redundancy. Your DNS records are distributed on servers throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia, so if one server should go down, your website will still be online. With unlimited secondary DNS, you always have a failsafe in case of a major outage.
Faster performance
  • Problem: Visitors experience delays or “time outs” trying to reach your site.
There’s a lot riding on the physical distance between your visitors and your server. Customers who live far away may experience a delay in reaching your site or even get a “website not found” error message. The more cable between your server and your customer’s computer, the longer it takes for them to reach your site.
Solution: The Premium DNS infrastructure offers improved security and faster resolution than the standard infrastructure. And since your information is distributed across DNS servers around the world, customers connect to the closest server location for a quicker response.

Grid Hosting Or Shared Hosting?

How does Grid Hosting differ from Shared Hosting? Compared with Shared Hosting, Grid Hosting offers increased availability and scalability. Shared Hosting can handle a limited amount of traffic, beyond which the site becomes unreachable. Grid Hosting responds to traffic spikes by adding additional resources to your site, keeping your site live regardless of traffic.

Due to differences in Grid Hosting, it cannot offer support for some of the technologies that Shared Hosting can:

  • Access databases are not supported due to Access’ locking scheme which prevents concurrent usage from different processes.
  • Front Page Server Extensions are not currently supported.
  • Java and ColdFusion are not currently supported.
  • Concurrent file writes to the same file in multiple sessions or concurrent threads. Example of affected resources: File-based databases and cross session log files (these issues are exaggerated in a Grid Hosting environment due to additional volume).
  • Storing data within the Application namespace and depending on multiple concurrent sessions accessing accurate data for the entire application.
  • Static Classes where sessions across the site (application) must have concurrent access to accurate data.

Upgrading to Grid-Based Hosting from Shared Hosting

If you currently use a Shared hosting account, you can migrate it to a Grid-based hosting account, which offers improved performance. For more information, see Web Hosting Powered by the Grid Frequently Asked Questions.

NOTE: When migrating to a Grid-based hosting account, you cannot switch your hosting account’s operating system. However, after the account migrates, you can switch it.

To Upgrade to Grid-Based Hosting

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. From the Products section, click Web Hosting.
  3. Click the domain name you want to use.
  4. Go to the Edit Account Details tab.
  5. From the Plan menu, select the new plan you want to use. Grid-based hosting accounts are labeled “[Plan type] [Operating systemWeb” — for example,Deluxe Linux Web.
  6. Click Save Changes.
  7. Complete any necessary purchases.

Visit our domain hosting page here.

Domain Hosting Is Now Powered By Grid

LuckyRegister is now offering Domain Hosting powered by Grid Technology, for all U.S. plans, at the same low price as traditional shared hosting.

What does it mean?

  • Increased performance and redundancy: Grid technology uses a cluster of servers instead of a single server to host websites, resulting in more available resources to accommodate traffic and processing loads. Moreover, multiple servers mean redundancy – if a server goes down, the other servers are still available to serve a website.
  • Pricing is unchanged: You can continue to order the same pricing structure, with no hidden fees, but powered by technology similar to what is used to deliver the most advanced cloud solutions available today.
  • Usability is unchanged: we will continue to offer the Hosting Control Center and Hosting Connection at no additional cost, and the customer interface is the same.
  • Features are virtually unchanged: with the exception of Java, ColdFusion, FrontPage, and Access database all the remaining features available on the shared hosting platform are available on Grid.

Customers who require one of these exceptions can still order plans that support them (based on the shared technology). NOTE: Look for a link below the plan options on the Web Hosting landing page – The page looks very similar. Order our cheap domain hosting now!

Hosting Transfer, Transfer Hosting To LuckyRegister

Setting up your Web site on our secure hosting servers

So you want to host your Web site on our secure servers, but you want to avoid costly mistakes and excessive site downtime. The process of moving your Web site from one hosting provider to another can seem like a daunting task. This guide leads you through the process of transferring your account to our secure servers while minimizing unfavorable downtime.

Essentially, when you host your Web site and its content, you are storing the files and data on a remote computer. The access and management tools pro-vided make it easy for you to move and maintain your files and data. You can successfully transfer your Web site hosting from your existing hosting pro-vider to our secure hosting with minimal interruptions to your site activity.

To help the process run smoothly, you should know who your current host-ing provider is and the company where your domain name is currently regis-tered. In many cases, this is not the same company. To begin the process of transferring your hosting account, purchase a hosting plan that suits your needs and then follow the steps outlined in this guide.

SETTING UP YOUR HOSTING ACCOUNT

Your account is not automatically set up when you purchase a hosting plan. You must set up the new account in the Hosting Manager, where you configure host-ing account functionality.

To Set up Your Hosting Account

1. Log in to your Account Manager.

2. Under the Hosting & Email section, select Hosting Account List.

3. Next to the hosting account you want to set up, click Setup Account.

4. On the Account Setup page in the Hosting Manager, type in the domain name you want to use for this hosting account.

5. If you want to use FrontPage for this account, select Install.

6. If you want Java Enabled for this account, select Setup.

*** The FrontPage and Java options will only display if you have purchased a hosting account that includes these features.

7. Create a User ID and Password for this hosting account. This is the User ID and password that you will use to connect to your hosting account using an FTP client. This is also the User ID and Password that you will use to access your free Web Statistics page.

8. Click Continue.

9. Verify your account information. If everything looks correct, click Submit.

A Congratulations message displays, letting you know that your hosting account should be ready to use in a few minutes. You will receive an email message once your hosting account is ready to use. This email message will include all of your basic account-management information.

*** If your domain is registered with us, we automatically change your name servers. You need to point your new host record to your old site until you finish this process.

CHANGING YOUR A RECORD

If your domain is registered with us, we recommend that you point your A record (host record) to your existing(old) hosting provider. This will help to avoid site downtime until you complete your data transfer.

Changing your A Record

1. Log in to your Account Manager.

2. From the Domains drop-down list, select My Domains.

3. In the Domain Manager, click on the domain name you want to change.

*** Once you complete the transfer of your files and data to your new hosting account, you can change the records back to your new IP address

TRANSFERRING YOUR WEB SITE CONTENT

Once you have set up your new hosting account, you can begin transferring files and data. There are several popular tools that you can use for uploading files and importing databases. This section provides instructions for using some of the most popular tools and links to more information.

Create backup files of your current Web site pages! Ensure that the backup folder contains your current “live” pages, including all files and images. Canceling your existing host-ing account without backing up your Web pages could result in a loss of your entire Web site.

Uploading Your Files

To upload files to your Web site, you need an FTP client. FTP, or File Transfer Pro-tocol, lets you connect to a host computer with your new hosting account. The Hosting Manager has a Web-based FTP client that you can use to upload your files.

If you need to transfer a lot of large files, we recommend that you use Windows XP Network Places or a standard FTP client such as FileZilla.

TESTING YOUR TRANSFERRED FILES

After you have set up your new hosting account and transferred files, you can easily verify that your Web site looks the way you want it to before you make it live on the Internet. You can test your Web site by adding the IP address and Web site name to your Windows host file.

If you do not have your IP address, you can get it from the Hosting Manager. You need the Server IP Address displayed in the Account Summary area.

To Modify Your Windows Host File

1. Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and open the host file in Note-pad. Note: hosts is the name of the file you need to modify, not a directory.

2. Add your IP address and Web site name below the last entry. The entry should look like this: 100.55.55.52 www.coolexample.com. Add each entry on an individual line with the IP address preceding the site name.

3. Save and close the host file.

Verifying the Transfer of Your Web Site Files

Once you have transferred your files and updated your host file, you can verify that your Web site works.

To view your Web site, open a browser window and type your domain name in the address bar.

You can only view your Web site from the computer where you added your IP address and domain name to the host file. It is not live on the Internet yet.

CHANGING YOUR DOMAIN NAME SERVERS(DNS)

4. In order to complete the transfer of your Web site hosting, you must change your domain name servers(DNS). A domain name server(DNS) is an address assigned by the computer where your Web site files are hosted. The address is associated with your domain name so that your Web site can be viewed on the Internet when someone enters your domain name. The process for setting up your name servers depends on the company where your domain is registered. Check with your domain name Registrar for specific instructions on how to change your name servers The nameservers for your hosting account depend on the day you set up your hosting. Use this list to determine your default nameservers:

After January 31, 2007

ns5.secureserver.net, ns6.secureserver.net

November 15, 2006 ‐ January 30, 2007

ns1.secureserver.net, ns2.secureserver.net

December 15, 2005 ‐ November 14, 2006

ns3.secureserver.net, ns4.secureserver.net

Before December 14, 2005

ns1.secureserver.net, ns2.secureserver.net

OR

wsc1.jomax.net, wsc2.jomax.net

These name servers will point your domain name to your new hosting account.

There may be some downtime before your Web site is avail-able on the Internet. This period is called the propagation period and can take up to 48 hours.

Once you have verified that your Web site works, you can cancel your account with your existing(previous) hosting provider.
